It helps, but they are good at trying to get everyone a table
Service was amazing and so was their blackberry lemon drop!!! Their homemade bread is amazing and served warm. Only bad thing I have to say is that their clams were quite bland.
Sometimes when coming to the Dalles my husband and I like to stop for a quick bite and this place seems to have a delicious burger and fries. The milk shakes are also nice and thick, I believe the prices are fair for the food quality.
Delicious food!! Exceptional service!! Old fashioned!! I heard this place has been here since 1939!!
Had dinner last nite, food, service and everything was great. Had stuffed mushrooms for app. And split the stuffed halibut. The split dinner was brought to the table with each getting a salad, then was able to split the dinner on another plate. Highly recommend this restaurant to anyone. We will be back. Cocktails were also top notch.
Loved it. Excellent food. Not only service, but hospitality. Rare to find!
This is a hidden gem in The Dalles! Great food, fantastic cocktails and superb service. We will be back.
This place was confusing..... looks like a dive bar from the outside ...... menu looks like a nice restaurant.... ambiance is somewhere in between. We stopped for a drink on the recommendation of a winery person or we probably would have never gone in. I wanted a fancy martini and they definitely get those right! Very cool presentation. Drinks were not unreasonable in price, but the food prices were high for the atmosphere I feel.... I didn't eat though so I won't knock the food. I just don't think I would ever go there for dinner.
Don't be fooled by the less than stellar exterior. Very nice inside with excellent food and friendly service.
My family took me to dinner here for my birthday. We always go there for special occasions so am very familiar with this restaurant for their outstanding food. Once again great.
Love this romantic atmosphere restaurant. Great seafood selection and amazing friendly staff. Try to eat here as often as we can! Going tonight too!
Good food and service, prices on the high end but worth it. Good place to eat and converse.
I waited my whole life to come here. Came for my boyfriend's birthday. My food arrived cold. They fixed it, but wow.
I don't know what I thought this would be like....since it looks like a concrete dingy bar from the outside. It is stuck on the side of a busy highway and painted a weird color. But when you go in....it's actually a semi-formal retro place to be. The food was delicious. The patronage is local. The owners are chronically short-staffed but friendly and hospitable. It was good and a good change of pace. Try it.
Great food. Amazing service! Truly a hidden gem. Lots of history to the building
We hadn't been here in years life happens and we just get busy. We enjoyed a wonderful dinner on Saturday night. The waitress was awesome and the food very tasty. The atmosphere was cozy as well.
I was staying the night in the Dalles. I found a place to get a steak online, and was sceptical about it. Boy was I wrong! I think it was the best steak I have ever had. Now I will drive the hour and a half just to go back.
Amazing food and service! Ahi tuna appetizer was delicious, the steak was cooked to perfection, and the home made bread, mmm, mmm good!
Ordered the steamer clams, very very tiny clams, not worth the price. Had a long island ice tea, couldn't even tell I had a drink at all. Not worth the price of any of it. But nice server
great food fantastic service
Old fashioned steakhouse. Good food, good service, good drinks that's all that matters. It doesn't look the best from the street and it's definitely dated inside but that's all cosmetic.
Food is not worth the prices especially for the wait time, for half the price you can eat anywhere else in town and be more satisfied. I dont mind paying for a good meal and nice setting/experience but this was very lackluster.
Food good staff nice elegant setting expensive
Service is not very fast or attentive. Decor is dated, but that is kind of fun though. Food was just okay. Had the rib eye and my wife had the prime rib. From what I hear, the bar is the star of the Hi-Way House. Probably won't go back.
Eaten here 2 times and and the atmosphere was great with very friendly service. 1 star each for those. Unfortunately both times the order was not as ordered. Not sure how they stay in business with the price of a meal and sub par cooking. 1st time way under cooked, I don't send things back but this time I had to. After 5 minutes under a warming lamp Would be my guess I got it back and not cooked any more than it was. I guess I was suppose to put salt on it and eat it completely raw. I did not eat it, asked for a box when everyone was done and took it home to cook it and eat dinner. Second time eating here I got overcooked burnt grease shrimp. WOW what a waste of money. I will not be back for a third time.
Had their gray prime rib. Diner beware.
Nice food and brilliant friendly service.
Great food, ambiance, staff. I would go again.
I have been going to the highway house since 1991 at least two or three times a year we celebrate something they are the atmosphere and the food the people that waited on us were amazing this year at the end of cherry harvest we decided that we were going to celebrate working and and thought we deserved a treat but that didn’t happen the highway house isn’t the highway house that I I have come to know in the past almost 30 years My onion rings or rings of onion that laid flat on the plate the steaks were the same they say they’re under new management what a big disappointment
Great food fair price.
Romantic environment and lighting. The food is beyond delicious. A must see!
Expected to see Dean M article when I walked into the joint. Good food and service.
Wednesday June 12 6:30pm, appetizers arrived at 7:30pm Dinner at 8:00pm. Yes, slow service and less than favorable Sticky Finger Steak bites-nothing sticky about them. Dinner-Stuffed Baked Halibut looked like Albino Halibut. No color or seasoning. Jumbo prawn fettuccine alfredo-once you ate the 3 prawns you are done because the rest was not that great. Don't try a Margarita not good at all. Service was slow to say the least but the homemade bread and stuffed mushrooms were very tasty. Sorry Hi-way House we will not be back.
Service was absolutely wonderful the food was good and the atmosphere was relaxing
Dinner bread was very good, but sadly the highlight of the meal. Stuffed mushrooms were swimming in some sort of milk and butter soup. Our entrees took an hour to get. Terribly bland prime rib. Dry and mushy macadamia crusted halibut. Expensive mistake stopping here for dinner.
Food was good. Slow service. Old decour, which was the coolest part. Limited menu. I've heard their cocktails are great, but I didn't partake of that. Staff was friendly.
We have gone different times throughout the years. We each had the prime rib. It was about 75% fat. The Decor is in need of some update. Every time we go there they are playing music from the 40s. It is not a place that week would go to again.
Get the stuffed mushrooms and a blackberry lemmon drop. You will be happy!
Our family went for dinner, a little late for us, but it was truly amazing. All of our meals & drinks were great. The service was great. Nothing bad to say & will definitely be back.
Date night tonight with my husband. We ordered the Ahi Tuna as an appetizer and I had Chicken Picatta and my husband and has the chef special chicken. We had home made Bread (still warm, yum) and a fresh Caesar salad and homemade seafood bisque for ours sides. All SO delicious. Jackie and Angela were both taking care of our table, and they were both wonderful! The drinks from Jay at the bar were fantastic...you have to try the tic-tac. Delicious!! We love the Hiway House. Relaxing and romantic atmosphere, and wonderful service and food!
Worst dining out experience of my entire 45 year life. Girl and I went for Valentine's Day. 7:30 reservation, waited 20 minutes at bar for table, no big deal. Table ready, waited 15 minutes for menus, another 15 for drinks and apps order, which came out half an hour later. Another 15 minutes to order dinner. Salads came out half an hour after that, tasted like they came out of a bag, dressings were terrible. A full hour later(over 2 hours after our reservation) we got our entrees. She got Cajun chicken fettuccine, I ordered Da Vinci chicken fettuccine. They both tasted exactly the same; insipid, tasteless chicken and pasta swimming in skim milk. Left without paying. STAY AWAY!
Great Food,Steaks,Seafood,Wonderful Strong Drinks, the Hiway House!
Good environment. Good drinks. Good food.
Excellent service, atmosphere, attitude, outstanding drinks and food.
Great food, excellent service
Beautiful set up in dinning area and a very nice bar section. Food was amazing, however be prepared to pay a good price on this food. It is well worth the money when you put it against the wait staff, local area, food options and the cook staff! Fresh foods and delishious portions are all worth it.
Amazing food, friendly staff, need to wear more formal style clothes here, definitely coming back again
The restaurant was a total surprise to me and my friends and the Food and Service was excellent. Can't wait to go back there again.
Good food, great service
We waited 40 mins for food. Ordered steak and chicken fettuccine. Both were under flavored. I was afraid to eat the salad. Chicken tasted like rubber. Broccoli tasted like rubber. Place was dirty and need some massive up keep! One positive ... Drinker were delicious. Was NOT worth $70 for a horrible meal. 🤢
Great food and service.
